Philosophy

We acknowledge the importance of whanaungatanga, parents as first teachers and respect their knowledge and work in collaboration with our kaiako to create positive, reciprocal relationships for all akonga to provide the best learning outcomes for each child.

Highly skilled teachers are committed to providing learning experiences that are stimulating, challenging and nurturing. Through our rich environment we motivate children to explore, accept challenges and take risks, building their confidence, courage, perseverance and whakamana.

Our teachers utilise dispositional language and Te Whaariki in developing an emergent curriculum encouraging discovery and exploration of ideas and interests. Children are supported in the development of social and emotional skills to become ako, competent and confident life-long learners and communicators.

Our forest schooling programme allows children to explore through curiosity, so they establish a deeper connection to our local maunga Pirongia and surrounding areas.  Forest schooling is a play experience which is a unique method of outdoor education that allows children to develop confidence, independence and an awareness and knowledge of Papatuanuku as we explore our natural environment.

We are committed to creating a sustainable future for Preschool by establishing a deeper connection to our area through forest schooling excursions and an awareness of waste and recycling procedures at Preschool and in our environment.  Instilling these connections is important to our Kaitiakitanga and environmental sustainability.

We show respect for all cultures and are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Tangata whenuatanga, regarding the principles of Partnership, Protection and Participation.  An environment of open consultation promoting positive relationships between our whanau, children and teachers provides the foundation for our Preschool as we grow and learn together.
